otto in top ten

While the Football team cracking the top ten worst teams and the the men's basketball team stuck in purgatory there has not been alot too root for until know.

We first have the Women's Basketball team cracking the top 25 for the first time there is hope. Now we have something else too look forward to. Otto the Orange was just ranked 6th best mascot in the country at The 2008 College Cheerleading & Dance Team National Championship recently in Orlando, Florida. Go Otto!
See i do write about the good!

Daryl you should be very proud! I think somebody needs a contact extension!

Veley or bust

I received a few comments this week y post about needing a new PA announcer and it is time to share them with the public:

This one comes from MJD:
True story: Right after Carl Eighlenberg announced his retirement, I approached the SID and Carrier Dome management about the job opening. They were receptive at first -- even said they were going to have tryouts. But they eventually fessed up that the job was going to this douche. Remember when he just used to do the promos during timeouts and halftime? The depth of his suckiness was apparent then. But at least then we didn't have to put up with "Drilled and Spilled" after every ankle tackle.

Champ says:
new PA announcer
new AD new football coach
The list keeps growing.
Nice job guys.
While we're at it, bring back Doug Logan on the radio!
The announcing at the Dome is a joke.

The Final one comes from my good Friend Brian over at Orange 44:
I'm jumping on the band wagon. I have always thought that, but I was inspired by your post.
Brian is a man of his words so here is a link to the article over at 44 .

Wow I guess i started something here. Well I am on board with Brian and I too will be posting the worst PA moments after each game. With no change up on the hill I have decided to focus all my attention on Veley, the games are bad enough that adding drilled and spilled after each ankle tackle and hearing that god dam bell sound during every third down I have had enough. This is war. Cantor is keeping Gross around, Gross is keeping Grob, and Gross is also keeping Veley. So look for Veley highlights at Orange 44 and here, maybe we can make a difference! Lets bring the fight to them boys!

Vaughan stay away

Grob received a verbal commitment from linebacker Dan Vaughan, well kind of. As quickly as Vaughan committed to Syracuse, he quickly announced that he would rather play for the Panthers. The problem is, at this point the panthers do not have any more scholarships. So the question is do we wait around till signing day and see if Vaughan signs or do we cut loose a player that clear does not bleed Orange. It's a tough choice, but personally I feel that Grob needs to pull the scholarship of anybody that does not want to play here. Syracuse has enough problems and they really do not need anymore. can you imagine playing the panthers and you are in the huddle with somebody who wants to be in one on the other side of the ball. well Greg here is your chance to stand up for your team that clearly needs somebody to stand up for it. Cut this future steel worker loose. If he doesn't want to be here then we don't want him to be here!

Well i guess the rumors of Coach P being in demand are true. According to The Dallas Morning News Coach P has accepted the job of defensive coordinator for the Miami Dolphins.

Ballhype: hype it up!

a cat a day keeps the good doctor away!

Wow i thought i was the leader of the crazed group of people who demand Grob be fired but i have been upped severely. check out this article I found. I guess we are not going to have to worry about the large population of stray cats in Syracuse anymore. sorry solvians I guess you guys are going to have to find a new source of food!

We need a new pa

If you have been fortunate enough to make that trip up the hill to the Carrier Dome then you have noticed the PA announcer is god awful. I was siting in my seats when Donte Green just made a basket when i over heard a fan sitting next to me say "oh god I hope the pa guy does not say a deuce for the cuse"! seconds later i here "Mr. Excitement" Michael Veley said that very line. Then I realized how awful this guy really is.

It was not long ago when our fearful leader "Dr." gross said these very words;

Syracuse fans will hear a different voice over the public address system at the Carrier Dome this season. ‘Mr. Excitement’ Michael Veley.“Michael Veley is truly the right person for this job” Gross said. “His loyalty to Syracuse has been observed by many for years. He has the experience. His heart and passion will be felt by all of us in his voice on game day.”

Here is what Veley had to say after he was hired; "No, I don’t feel the pressure’s on the public address announcer," Veley said. "As I said, the fans don’t come to the game to hear me. Do I hope we can help the team? Absolutely. If my job is to get fans to come to the game and be part of the excitement and get this program turned around, I certainly am here to help the athletic department do that. I believe in coach (Greg) Robinson. He has a plan and a plan can’t happen overnight. I would encourage fans that are on the fence to come out Saturday and get behind this team. If you’re passionate about a program, it’s sort of like being passionate about your family. If a member of your family is going through a tough time, you don’t abandon a family member. You are there to try to help them through the tough time and its all the more gratifying at the other end of it. I hope our fans kind of take that approach. Obviously, the more fans there are in the crowd, the more excitement there is in the team and the more excitement I feel as the PA announcer. We have no excuse. Let’s rally around the troops, show up, and wear your orange on Saturday.”

Does anybody feel like he is accomplishing any of those things? honestly he is right about one thing, people do not come to the games to listen to him, how bad of a job is it when people notice how bad he is!

Honestly i don't want to feel his passion any longer. He is awful, Hey here is an idea, I know of a fellow blogger who would love to do the Announcements. I can personally attest to his ability hearing him every morning during home room. He also has had the same job doing crunch games. Also this person had a radio show that was the best sports talk show in the area, he is still missed! this man is non other than our fellow blogger Brent "the axeman"Axe! Come on Gross here is a chance to right one of your wrongs! how many times am i going to have to endure racked and stacked, deuce for the cuse, and A.O. (does he have a real name or what). Come is isn't bad enough that i have to endure all the advertisements. How much can we all take, seriously!

disgraceful

today i was scouring the Internet looking for something to blog about when all of a sudden i came across this article about Paul Harris not playing hard.

On why we lost to Villanova....
The reason why I think we lost is because I didn't come to play today," said Harris, who'd been unprovoked. "I was kind of going through the motions. When Coach took me out early on, it kind of just brought me down and it was, like, forget it. I really didn't play hard after that."

Why..
"I didn't play hard," he said. "I'm going to be honest with you. I shot a three and Coach yelled at me. I'm not saying, 'Don't yell at me.' But it just kind of threw me off and I didn't play after that. I know I shouldn't do that to my teammates, but sometimes I have days like that."

On rebounding...
"I didn't play half as good as I can play," he said. "Not at all. I didn't even really try to get rebounds. Some of them just kind of fell into my hands. And I didn't score as much. If I'd have made some game-changing plays - like, get offensive rebounds or anything - we could have won. I take the blame.

On would he rather be a cheerleader...
"As soon as I came out of the game, I was like . . . I don't know. I mean, I was just ready to cheer the team on. I should have told (Boeheim) after that, 'Don't put me back in.' Jonny Flynn kept telling me, 'C'mon. C'mon. When are you going to be ready to play?' I don't know. It is what it is."

This whole thing is very disturbing to me and it brings me right back to my post about the attitude problem of these players. I want to start this out by saying that i have been a Harris fan and I still am. That being said he needs to learn quickly that this is a team sport and that a large fan base is out there rooting on this team. By not playing hard he is hurting himself, his team, and the community that roots for the orange! I realize that he is a young man but he needs to understand that when Jimmy B takes him out of the game to scold him, he is doing it to teach him, not to degrade him. Harris is a good player the problem is he does not have the ability yet to hit long shots. he needs to take advantage of his strong points, getting inside and rebounding.

Now this team needs discipline and that should start right now. Jimmy B should sit Harris for a portion if not all of the game against Georgetown. this sends a few clear cut messages.
1. play hard all the time
2.I(jimmy B) am in charge listen to me cause i might know a thing or two about basketball
3. get your head out of your ass you premadonna

this is a cancer that can not be allowed to spread, if it does you might as well not play anymore games cause you are not going to win. I was at the game, and the whole time I was saying where is Harris, well I guess I now know.

So Paul if you are reading this shut the fuck up and start playing basketball with all your heart and sole. there are thousands of kids who would give there right arm for the chances that you have been given. what the is the matter with you, you should be ashamed at yourself!

Now hopefully that loss will not hurt us when the NCAA selection committee convenes in a few months cause if it does god have mercy on your sole!
