Grob sees good things

In keeping with the football team i have found a few article on the Internet.

The Coaching rankings are out, Guess who is not last anymore. Good job Grob I think you should call billy Stewart and thank him for coming taking the job.

I just caught the Grob interview on su athletics and it seems that he has not changed. I am glad to see that Grob see's good things, he likes the intensity and they look different than last year. how they look different he did not say, but i am going with they look different cause Grob says so and that is good enough for me. the interesting thing about the interview is the fact that Grob said that Vinny Giruzzi's sick of losing and so is the team. Well at least we know that the players feel the same way the paying fans feel. The question is, is that good enough, I hope so.

Hey listen to grob the want to is there and the players and coaches are working hard. Wow thats good new i really do not want to hear that the players and coaches are not working hard, I could not imagine how bad they would be. The good thing is that Grob is not blind cause yesterday he said that he sees things. I am proud of you greg, I am glad that you do see things, but what in gods name do you see. hope fully your new found vision can help you turn this thing around!

With one roller coaster ride over with and the up coming football season approaching one would have to wonder what the football gods have in store for us. Is it going to be another humiliating season that will could and should be Grobs final or will it be a turn around season that will save Grobs job. I have to admit that i am happy with the off season moves and at first light it looks like Grob might finally be on the right path. I like the new hires in Mitch Browning and Dan Conley. I think they are both going to bring a new and higher level of intensity to the bewildered Orange. So the questions that hopefully will be answered in the coming months are, Can Browning turn around the second worst rated Oline in the country and return the offense to Glory. Can Conley and Grob fire up the motley crew it calls a defense that could not stop a peewee team. Can the sophomores step up there game and contribute more and can any of the freshman make (forgive me) a sudden impact.

what was that

Leaving the Dome last night was one I will never forget. the only thing I was thinking was, that did not happen. My next thought was, did i drink to many beers at the dome, maybe i was too drunk to see the final score, but that was not the answer due to the lack of alcohol in the dome during nit games. Anyways i wanted to hold off writing a post due to the anger that was brewing in my blood. I wanted to settle down before I started this.

I have to say that this was a tough pill to swallow considering how dominating our Syracuse club played for 20 minutes, the problem was it was the wrong twenty minutes. Now i am left wondering how this has happened not one but twice in less than a month. why is it that whenever we need Harris to make a smart play he does something stupid over and over again. Why is it that our beloved Jimmy B refuses to make any kind of change during the course of a game and why in gods name does he continue to make a team slow down when it is pretty obvious that they do not play slowly very well. My last gripe is that play they called for donte during the final time out, is that really the best our hall of fame coach can muster, if it is it is quite evident that the game has passed him by and he needs to step down.

Now I did have gripe with the poor officiating but that was primarily during the first half and you can not blame the officials for a 22 point melt down, the only person i can blame is jimmy. watching the game i noticed the umass coach keeping there players focused and in the game, the only thing i saw jimmy b do was pick his nose and whine to the refs. This loss is inexcusable and i really do have a huge problem with this loss. come on guys rule 22 play like a champion!

the goings on in my life

Wow I just realized how long it has been between posts. Alot has happened since my last post so allow me the minute to run down the happenings.

A. turned 30. not real happy about this but well life goes on.

B. Syracuse gets bounced out of the big east tourney like the red headed step child it has been since gross has taken over the duties up on the hill.

c. Syracuse fails to make NCAA again, boo hoo the NCAA tourney is not the same but yeah i will not have that compulsion to have Syracuse beating NC for the national championship.

d. first round of NCAA's and all is going well in my bracket.

e. round two of ncaa's what the hell just happened. i went from having two losses to getting humiliated.

f. Syracuse takes down Maryland and i lose a date. Let me explain this one. Well I was watching the SU game at a local Tip Hill bar with a few friends and a girl. Anyways I soon found out she was from Baltimore. Guys here is a tip, when your team is winning don't rub that in her face, the only thing that happens is you get a drink poured on you and you go home with blue balls! smooth as sand paper!

g. I received a few phone calls asking about getting a moist blow job on my cell phone. Well remember when I said I turned 30, well I got drunk and my good old friends thought it would be funny to put "for a moist blow job call ..........." on a janga block at Awful Ales. revenge will suck!!!

H. Syracuse gets a chance to revenge it's loss to Umass and I will be back in the house to heckle a few UMass players. If you have any good Umass burns send them my way cause i am sitting right behind the umass bench.

I. Well another holiday came and went along with another "friendly" football game. let me explain this one. Every holiday a bunch of my high school friends come back to town and we get together to play a little pig skin. anyways we are not young anymore so injuries usually amass. This year i was rushing my good friend Chris and i was about to sack him when i see hi s eyes light up and a big smile form on his face. then i see him fire the football. Next thing I know i am laying on the field praying that someday when I meet and marry Miss Cusefan78 i will be able to have kids. needless to say my ex friend Chris rifled a shoe string pass right at my unmentionables. thanks bud revenge will be had!

J. The axeman is back on the air! yeah yeah no more hearing that high pitched voice of the manchild and hear the blathering blow hole Bud. Now I am sure I am coming down a little hard on those two but i have always been a huge fan of the axeman. Lets flash back twelve years ago. every morning in high school we all used to sit down for home room and get ready for the eight long hours of school. well when all seemed lost the PA would come to life with the voice of non other than our local blogger the axeman. he would run down everything from SU sports to the Bills, to Ludden losing another nail biter football game 75-3. anyways From day one we all knew that the force was strong with that one and he would move on to bigger things. anyways there is nobody else i could think of that deserves this more than Brent. Jimmy the snail

Watching the end of the game last night I felt like i was witnessing déjà vu at about the 5 minute mark. That is when I noticed something I could not believe. I was not sure of what i saw but within thirty second my phone started to ring. Let me paint the picture. The Pirates were mounting a come back thanks to the slowed down offense and the vast amount of turnovers. Then Paul Harris sinks a shot from the foul line. The next time up Harris get the ball and sees an open lane so he drives to the hoop and scores. That is when I saw Jimmy B, jump out of his chair and start screaming at Harris for not taking more time off the clock. I am dumb founded by this. When my phone rang i was still trying to figure out why Jimmy B. was so upset. I was talking to my buddy and we were both in agreement that we would rather see two EASY points then milk the time of the clock and settle for heaving up a bad shot. This slow down offense has bitten Syracuse before, look no further than last weekends Pittsburg debacle. I can see it clear as day, these young players do not like playing a slow down offense and it seems to take the wind out of there sails, so why keep doing it. why yell at Harris when he did his job, he put two points on the board and that much harder for Seton Hall to come back. Paul great job even though Jimmy did not see it that way, we did!

Usher and more.

Well another day and still we are talking about the Usher story. This will be the last time I touch on this. here are the comments for the day and I will respond below.

Kick his Ass Sea Bass! I am totally on board with you on this one. Half the Ushers up there are older, devoted fans that just enjoy being up there for the environment and to support Syracuse!

I know I am going up a slippery slope about the usher thing, all I was saying is that I am not going to lose sleep over this. I also don't think it is the end of the world. Is it wrong? Yes, but it does not bother me. This is life, and things happen, people lose their jobs for all sorts of reasons. Say you were a boss and had an employee basically say, you were incompetent and could not do your job, I am pretty sure you would take action. I think any reasonable person would. The main problem that I have was with your problem with Gross. I think your judgments are incorrect and off the collar. You want to point out that Gross canceled swimming and diving. Well, I would argue that athletics in major division 1 colleges is a business. So when it is going to cost the school $35-$40 million dollars, some hard choices have to be made. When you make hard choices some are going to be upset, that is life. If you feel so strongly about swimming and diving why don’t you write a check? Gross has been here for only four years and he has already brought a great deal of positive change, as I pointed out already. So the first coach he hired is having a tough time and many people want him to be fired. What if Rutgers fired coach schiano after three years, they would still be at the bottom of the big east. So maybe Gross knows something that you don’t, he has been around the best program in college football. I think people want to point the figure and blame people instead of support the team. Personally I believe Gross is a respectable man, who is honoring the contract of Grob and giving him a chance. He has to make some tough decisions. If you want to point out every negative about someone and forget the good, well that is your choice. Also if you agree with me that there was no talent, how is a supposed to win? What is he suppose to do grow division 1 ready football players on trees. He is doing the only thing that he can; he is recruiting and developing his players. This year is going to be a big year for him and the team. His first full class will be in the program for three years now, and there should be some change. If not I am sure Gross will take action and bring someone else in, but to link Grob and Gross after only three seasons is a little unfair.

I have to say that I like this guy, he states his opinion and backs it up. With that said I just will never see eye to eye with him.

Now on the usher topic I feel that I am beating a dead horse and i think you get what I am talking about.

as for our beloved Dr. Gross. Over the years I have been a huge Gross fan and if you go back in my archives you will see what I am talking about.

Now I realize you can not blame Gross for everything but i want to put out a few stats that I found on the website Getgrossout.com. One note is that these stats are from 11-26-2007. The plus and negative are as opposed to Jakes term.

Now I will say that sports like Woman's Basketball, Woman's Lacrosse, and Woman's tennis have flourished under Gross but the fact of the matter is, if you combine all those woman's sports revenue it would not equal the revenue from one sold out Football game. So why are ticket prices going up, why is parking going up, why are there more corporate sponsor's then a nascar, why has the college pageantry been removed in favor of corporate America. The answer is pretty clear, the teams that matter are not doing what they are supposed to be doing, winning. Now I do realize that Jake did his part in running the football team down but it would never have been this bad if there was a slow transition instead of the all or nothing attitude of Gross and Grob. I know that you hate that i link the two together but the fact of the matter is Grob was Gross's first hire and they promised us the fans, grander was coming, national championship will be had, and that winning was right around the corner. Since those remarks i have seen seven wins, now that would be acceptable if they were all in the same season, they are not this is over three years. This is not acceptable. I have gone to almost all the home games for football and basketball during this time, and i will continue to go to the game cause I love Syracuse. I will say this, the dome has never looked better, the melo center is a great addition and so is the weight room. but these are all patches on the crumbling football and basketball teams.

As a dedicated fan I want to close on this, I spend thousands of dollars on the hill every year, what am I getting for this, Heartache. If Grob and Gross due not turn this around this year then changes need to be made. I will be the first to say that all will be forgiven if they turn this around. Go SU, go Grob, and go Gross!!!!

By the way Mr anonymous if you attend the spring game your first beer is on me!

First off, who the hell cares about a 70 something USHER. I know, I know, freedom of speech, but I am not going to lose sleep over an usher, who is an usher because he wants to see the games for free. O wait he gets paid to watch the games. Secondly, and this is what you are dead wrong about, if you think Gross is a bad hire you have lost touch with reality. Among other things he has created new facility for basketball and football, he wants to put more comfortable seating in the dome and he brought field turf to the dome and Manley Field House. Additionally, in case you have not noticed women’s basketball is not doing that bad right know. People are starting to actually go to the games. So I ask myself why such hate for a man who has done so much for SU athletics. The answer is pretty obvious, you must be perfect and you expect everyone else to be perfect. So you forget that Gross has done so such for SU and dwell on the fact that you and so many others think he made one bad hire. Let me tell you something about football. If you could evaluate talent. You would know that Grob had nothing to work with. So he went out and started recruiting, and he has done a good job. I mean we are not USC; we won't get true freshmen to come in and be great. It's just not going to happen. So let his first whole class, whom are only going to be juniors this year, work their way through the program and things will start to get better. No team in the world is going to win with freshmen and sophomores playing a great deal of minutes. You probably have never played football in your life, so let me tell you this one last thing. You win with seniors. They are the team leaders, they set the attitudes and people follow them. Without good senior you will not be a very good football team. With that being said, I hope you reevaluate your judgmental views, mister perfect.

I take offense to this because
A. i am going to be older on day and i hope that somebody cares about me.
B. This man served his country during a time when his friends were getting killed in Korea. so for you not to care about a man like that then there is something wrong with you.

Now lets put that aside I have said many times that Gross has done alot a good things, but they are cosmetic and without a team to fill the dome there is no need for any of this. I am not sure if you have been following Syracuse sports but they are a laughing stock around the country and Yes Gross has alot to do with this. Getting rid of the swimming and diving is ludicrous because it has been a bright spot for many years. Secondly he fired Coach P and hired a man that clearly is not ready to lead. This move alone has sunk the program into depths that i am not sure we can ever recover from. Just saying that we are not in the same league as USC is evident of this. Syracuse football was a feared program and teams never over looked us, now we are the door mat of the Big east, A conference that Syracuse put on the map. Now I do agree that the cupboard was empty and coach P needed to go but he managed to win using the talent that he had, Why has Grob not been able to do this. Now as for me being perfect, I am not in any regards but I have my opinions and I stand behind them. That is allowed i thought. Secondly this is my blog and I will write what i feel like and if you do not like it stop reading it, I do not care I do not do this for fame or money,I do this because it allows me to express myself and my opinions, personally I could care less if anybody reads this.

Back to your comments, Gross does not deal with the Ushers personally but he is the AD and he is responsible for all aspects of Syracuse Sports so this does fall back on his lap. This is wrong in so many ways it disturbs me that you do not see why this is wrong. This is what is wrong with this country, people like you who hide behind Anonymous and speak your mind without knowing what you are talking about. I truly hope that when you are older everyone will forget about you and what you have done with your life because i bet you will not accomplish half of what this gentleman has.

Did anybody catch the article in Syracuse.com about the usher who was fired for complaining about SU Football in the paper. Check this out.

I am not really sure where to start. First off I thought this was America and you had the right of freedom of speech. I guess The Dome does not believe in The Bill Of Rights. Secondly this man is a Korean War Veteran. Now I am not saying that just cause he is a vet he can do anything he wants, but this man put his life on the line for this country and I think he has earned the right to say what he believes. I Really hope that he does sue the Dome and Syracuse University.

Just read that SU fired an 18 year employee usher at the Dome who is 78 years old and Korean War veteran, because he wrote an article to the paper that was critical of the football program! This is disgusting. This is a America - this is not right. The person who needs to be fired is Pat Campbell, the Dome director. Guess it is ok if you are SU to can an old white guy. I hope someone picks up his case for free and sues these SOB. Hey Gross, Cantor, what about his RIGHTS?? You can't write a letter to the paper?? Sick. Oh, and how bout getting an SU Football program worth cheering for instead of firing people who rigthly exercise their rights as American citizens.

I have said it here before Gross rules by fear & intimidation.He is a dictator & if you are not 200% with him you are gone baby.Other firings have been brushed aside. Thats all folks. After that loss to pitt yesterday, all ncaa hopes are pretty much gone and it seems that another year of nit games will be upon us in the dome. I am now setting my sites on the Seton Hall game to see how these guys bounce back from the horrid loss yesterday. Introducing the State Hump

Over the past few months I have been enjoying the blogging of many fine men and women who rule our little community. The time, and effort set fourth in these blogs are priceless. I have been racking my brain the past few months to come up with something special, when all of a sudden it hit me like a ton of bricks. One day last week I was cruising the web when I ran into the Nunnes 44 collaboration when it hit me. I came up with an idea to do a question and answer session with arguably one of the most original Blogs coming out of the Syracuse area, The Sports Hump. These question and answers are of the Seinfeld nature, they are questions about nothing, but I think it works. So thanks Nunnes 44 for the solid idea and one day I aspire to be as good as you guys. Anyways I think I can remove my lips from their asses now. So without further adieu I give you the first installment of....... drum roll please........... The State Hump, enjoy!

State of the Orange-Who would you rather see naked, Julie Boeheim or the Axeman?

The Sports Hump-I like them curvy, so I would have to go with Axe. Not sure if he is ready for the "Men of Steel" tour yet, but you never know. I got to give it though to Julie, she is very Desperate Housewives attractive and is hanging in there at her age. I think their is an acronym for ladies like her and it ends in i.l.f. Here is what is going to happen at the Boeheim household in a few years.......... Friend of Boeheim Children-Dude, your mom so wants to Desperate Housewives me. She grabbed my hand, gave me a hug, and everything!

State of the Orange-Which of these players would you rather see a large object fall on their head, Micheal Owens(44) or Troy Nunes(11)?

The Sports Hump-Push on that one. Troy Nunes (the Magician) would use his power to move left and cause a miss and write a detailed rant of how and why he missed the large object and what other commentators are stating about the object with a ambiguous and humorous twist, and Troy Nunes the player would not be able to work the closing shift at Cracker Barrel in Bayonne, New Jersey if something large fell on his head. I would go with Chris Gedney. I can't trust him as far as I can throw a 5 and out to him. Large obstacles have fell on his head, 35 drops back in 93 from my man Marvin Graves.

State of the Orange-Who do you think would be the Cutest couple, Dr. Gross and Nancy Cantor, or Greg Robinson and The Tooth Ferry?

The Sports Hump-I say the Doctor and Cantor. I would love to see the offspring of those two. I think it would look like a Tiny Shanjaya! He lurks in the shadows at home football games. He stalks through the alleys at Shine. He hides under tables and chairs waiting. He is...Lil man Gross

State of the Orange-If you ran into Daryl Gross at a bar would A. shine his head or B. check to see if Grobs lips are planted on his ass?

The Sports Hump-I would Shine Dr. Gross's head Benny Hill style....Remember, to be bald is now known as "To pull a Britney." We have to keep that thing shined, so when our 3rd string defensive ends get their jersey retired, he is in Ship-Shape!

State of the Orange-I just watched Mr. Brooks, who would be a better serial killer Jim Boeheim, Nancy Cantor, or Greg Robinson?

The Sports Hump-Boeheim, no question! Do you see the look in Jim's eye when Paul Harris takes a 15 ft. jumpshot? He has the look. You can also tell when Bud asks him one of his ridiculous questions... Bud- You just lost to South Florida, what's the mood in the locker room? Jim- Stab, Stab, Stab!

State of the Orange-If Paul Harris and Julie Boehiem hooked up and had kids who would they most resemble?

I would like to thank my mom and dad who inspired me to do my best, my dog pookie who always seems to light up my day(it just takes peanut butter), Fidel Castro for stealing my thunder and stepping down on the day i decided to post this (what you couldn't wait a day), and Greg Robinson for turning SU football into what we have all grown to love(I see good things). Am I forgetting anybody.

A West Virgina fan on the Orange

Today I was trying to kill time between the Daytona 500 and the Premiere of the much hyped Knight Rider. Personally I am not sure if I can accept the poser new KITT being a Mustang and having a new voice in Val Kilmer. Anyways, I was searching the web when I stumbled upon this article in Sporting New. It was written by a die hard West Virginia fan that has come to respect us finally. Anyways it talks about the basketball program in depth and it is very well written for a guy that admits to not knowing much about Syracuse. Gees it only took a National Championship, Numerous Final Four appearances, and Big East Titles, it's about time people start respecting the Orange. I just can’t believe this guys decides now in and year that can be summed up as a roller coaster ride. Check it out!

Gerry back in the paint

I am kind of disapointed in the Syracuse Blogger Community. Big News Happens here in the cuse and combine that with the fact it involves Jimmy B's adopted son and no bloggers to be found. I guess I am going to have to break the news to the blogger community.

Well our beloved Point Guard only a few years removed from SU basketball is off again to a foreign land. Gerry Mcnamara has signed a contract with a professional team in Latvia. Reports are that the Latvia is a top 50 European team. Gerry's contract is an incentive based contract that could roll well in the 6 figures. Good Luck Gerry.

Conley back to the hill

Well it look as if Grob might have made his best move to date. Rumors are circulating that Dan Conley has been hired by Syracuse. I have to say that this is a great move for Grob. With Bring Conley in to the fold he is bringing in a fierce competitor who knows Syracuse, bleeds orange and sincerely wants to be here. Unlike past coaches like Apple white and Russ who viewed Syracuse as a stepping stone, and not what it should be, a career. Good job Grob, this is what the Orange needs, someone who has fire and drive to get Syracuse back to where it should be, on top of the big east and firmly entrenched in the top twenty five. I am pumped and now I am gearing up for the spring game.

Russ is out but now who is in

News broke today that Syracuse's defensive coordinator is leaving to take a job at Wake Forest. Reports are that Russ will be in charge of the tight ends and linebacker. This is a strange move, why would anybody take a demotion from Coordinator. "Steve was dedicated to our program and worked hard to help us build the program to take it in the direction we want to go, Robinson said.”This is an opportunity for me to enhance our program toward our needs at this time." Was the writing on the wall for Russ? After the Press conference back a few months ago when grob told us that everyone was being evaluated, I thought Russ was the first to go, and needed to go.


I have to say that this might be the best decision for both parties. Russ goes elsewhere and saves face by not getting fired or demoted and Grob gets to either get somebody new in there or takes back control. The question is who will take over as linebackers coach? I have to say that when I first heard about this the first name that popped into my mind was former Linebacker Dan Conley. This would be the best hire in the grob era, with hiring Conley you get somebody who was a warrior in orange, somebody who knows the school and can sell a program because he bleeds Orange.

The question is, would Conley take the job?
Well Dah, take a look at what Dan said this past summer. "It may not have been the right reason, but I got into the coaching profession because I was completely lost without football," he said. "And now I love it. But I've set a career goal to go back and coach at Syracuse. "My intention has always been to return to Syracuse. If Notre Dame called and said, 'Hey, we want you to be a coordinator,' I'd tell them, 'No.' Syracuse has become my home. It's a very special place to me. It would be great if I could coach there for the rest of my life." Tell me this guy is not Mr. Orange.

Well how about recruiting, can Dan sell this program?
"When I got into this business," said Conley, "I was told, 'Don't do this to make a lot of money.' And that's true. I know there are million-dollar jobs out there, but there aren't that many. Coaching isn't about money; it's about the passion for the game. It can be a grind and I know the pressure from the alumni to win can make you old real fast. But I love the strategy end of it, and I can be around our kids all day long. "I love teaching them what I learned at Syracuse - and not just how to defeat a block and make a tackle. I love teaching young men about respect and accountability and responsibility. You know, about how to represent yourself. 'Yes, sir.' And, 'No, sir.' Those kinds of things. Coach P always said coaching was about winning games, developing the character of young people and graduating the players. I've adopted that." Who wouldn't want to send there kid to learn from this guy.
A few months back when I read the POLIQUIN article, I was like hire this guy grob, you need to hire him. Well here is Grobs chance to get something right. Hire this guy who bleeds Orange, Give this guy a shot. As POLIQUIN once said "Orange linebacker becomes Orange aide. Orange star becomes Orange mentor. Orange tackler becomes Orange teacher

Dar Dar in the house

I have some inside knowledge on the offensive line. I was attending the
Local Car Show at the OnCenter when I ran into Kirby Dar Dar. I first want to mention how impressed I was with his honesty and candidness. Kirby spoke freely about his thoughts on what the problems are with SU football.

Kirby mentioned that he was around the SU football team off and on last season and that he noticed that the Offensive lineman where not in the weight room nearly enough and that coaches did not push the issue. He told me that in his day the guys from the oline were constantly in the weight room and that all of them could squat at least seven hundred pounds. He was saying that these guys could not even get to five hundred. He added that he was even over 600lbs as a small running back and that helped him get threw the line. Kirby said that these guys are on the softer side and that is a bad attitude to have for an olineman who should be one of the toughest people the team. Kirby was saying that there technique is not far off. The problem is with their strength. It is tough to move somebody who can push harder than you!

With the new recruiting class signed and on their way to the hill I noticed the lack of linemen and I hope that Grob and Browning have a plan. I have said this before and I will say it again, If SU can figure out the line problems then they are not that far off. The question is can the coaches fix this so the players and the fans can finally sit back and joke about the bad years that are finally behind us. I hope so; I am not sure how much more I can take.

One last thing Kirby also said that he believes that Grob will get this turned around and that we are heading in the right direction.

With today being the national signing day i have come up with an idea that grob might want to consider before the day is over. I found this video and i think that if there are any people who are unsure about coming to Syracuse then Grob should show them this and say that these are the kind of girls found at SU!
